A little preventive maintenance goes a long way towards making sure your carpets are clean. That means the better shape your carpets are in, the easier they will be to clean. Most people probably already realize this. However, they may not be completely aware of how to go about preventing the carpet from falling into disarray. For those wondering about such a problem, here are a few ways to prevent a carpet from falling into a dilapidated condition:

Take a zero tolerance policy towards drinks in the living room. One of the most common ways stains find their way into a carpet is an accidental spill. Barring the presence of beverages from the living room is a must.

Don’t track in dirt from the outside. Welcome mats are not just for welcoming people. They are for cleaning dirt from the bottom of one’s shoes. Tracking dirt into the house leads to really messy carpets. So, always be sure to keep an eye on any potential dirt tracking from the outside.

As much as we love our pets, they can prove to be the source of a headache here and there. Damaging the carpet is one way they can draw their owner’s ire. That is why it is best to restrict a pet from venturing into a carpeted area or at least keeping a close eye on the pet if it does.

Vacuum the carpet as often as possible. Dirt and debris can greatly undermine the look of a carpet. Regularly vacuuming will eliminate the presence of such dirt which will add to the look of the carpet significantly.

Carpet Cleaning on Your Own

When it comes to carpet cleaning, some may wonder if it is possible to effectively clean the carpeting yourself. The answer is most definitely yes and the end results will be based upon the proverbial elbow grease once is willing to put into the process. Those that are willing to invest a great deal of hard work into cleaning the carpet will discover the end results will be quite pleasing.

There are a few ways you can clean a carpet yourself. For those that might be on a budget, scrubbing the carpet by hand is the option available. However, you will most definitely need to use a carpet cleaning solution. These solutions usually come in powder form. The powder is then mixed into a bucket of warm water to create a liquid carpet cleaning solution.

Now, here is a little advice some should heed: do not pour directly pour the solution on the carpeting. This would be a mistake because the excess water could end up making the carpet moldy. Instead, use a damp rag or a brush with the solution on it to clean the carpet. This way, mold is kept to a minimum.

Of course, the easier way to clean the carpet would be to purchase a carpet cleaning vacuum device. The way this works is the solution would be poured into the vacuum which would then be circulated through the cleaner and into the carpet.

Essentially, the solution would hit the carpet at high pressure and then be sucked back into the vacuum. This ensures the carpet is not only clean, but it becomes immediately dry.

Prerequisites for Carpet Cleaning

When you pay for carpet cleaning services, you will want the best possible job performed. However, it is also highly important that you do not put the carpet cleaner into the worst possible position. In other words, you do not want the carpet to be in such poor condition that it is incredibly difficult to clean. This is true whether or not you hire a professional cleaning service or if you opt to clean the carpet yourself.

That means you need to take all the steps needed to make sure the carpet stays as clean as humanly possible. Of course, it is impossible to keep the carpet perfectly clean. But, you do not need to keep it perfectly clean. You simply need to keep it clean to a somewhat reasonable level.

One of the best ways to do this is to clean it at least 3 times a year. Many will only clean their carpets once a year. Some may do so once every three years. This is an error because the look of the carpet will slowly fall apart as a result of such a lack of proper attention to the care of the carpet. So, avoid letting too much time go by prior to seeking carpet cleaning solutions.

Making sure you do not engage in any behavior that undermines the quality of the carpet is necessary as well. In other words, the old maxim about not tracking in dirt from the outside holds true. So does the notion of adding a rug’s to the interior of a room as a stop gap measure to preventing dirt from being tracked in.

Professional Carpet Cleaning

Most people are familiar with the common process of professional carpet cleaning. However, they may not be completely familiar with the notion of green carpet cleaning. There are a few reasons why people are not familiar with green carpet cleaning. The most obvious reason is that it is a new concept. When something is new it can take a little while for it to catch on. Hopefully, green carpet cleaning will catch on soon since it is just as effective as traditional carpet cleaning. The only difference is that the materials used in green carpet cleaning are more environmentally friendly.

Instead of using processed chemical ingredients to clean the carpet, green carpet cleaning uses organic products. These natural and organic products will not come with the fumes associated with chemical cleaners and they do not contribute to environmental harm. Additionally, there will be no degradation of the carpet since they will not be coming into contact with chemically enhanced cleaners.

Green cleaning may cost slightly more since it employs unique cleaning agents that must be special order. However, as the popularity of such a cleaning method increases, prices will come down. When this occurs, such a strategy of carpet cleaning will prove to be more accessible.

Of course, there will also be questions regarding the effectiveness of green carpeting cleaning services. The effectiveness is right on par with the traditional cleaning items so you can feel confident that the work performed on the carpet will be of the highest quality. So, when it comes to cleaning your carpet…go green!
