One of the number one causes of diseases right now is said to be the lack of hygiene. Some of the most basic curable diseases are becoming harder to treat because most of the patients are living in deplorable conditions. This is especially the case in the third world countries that have informal settlements. This is a simple illustration of how important it is to live in a clean environment and take keen interest to ensure that all places that can accumulate dirt are cleaned regularly. The house is one of the greatest hubs for dirt and germs. There is often so much going on there that many people do not do a thorough and regular cleaning. The greatest culprit of carrying dirt in the house is the carpet. It has the greatest level of exposure to dirt given the nature of its purpose. For this reason, different carpet cleaning products have been launched into the market to deal with this menace.

In looking into their up-keep, it is important to also understand where carpets came from. Carpets have their origins in the 15th century. They were used by the Arabs, who laid them on the ground and slept on them. With time, the carpets were used in the king's palace to just sit around and even entertain guests. In the 17th century, the crusades by the Europeans into what was traditionally the land of the Arabs exposed them to the idea and they picked it up immediately. They also started sleeping on mats, that we have now christened carpets. The culture has not changed much but there is a change in the usage of the mat now. The carpet is used to perform a variety of tasks, chief among which is the domestic use of the product. It is used in the house to provide a good surface to rest your feet on or to walk on. It may serve other purposes such as improving acoustics in a studio and in offices. For all these settings, different carpet cleaning products are used.

Having looked into the genesis of the carpet, it is important to also understand that there are many different kinds of carpets in the market and for the different carpets, there are different carpet cleaning products. Cleaning the common plastic carpet is the simplest. Often, the carpet just needs to be swept with a soft brush or by a damp mop in the event that it has some stains. Water should not be poured on this kind of carpet since it can get beneath the carpet and make it rot and smell. The other kinds of carpets are much denser and have a rougher texture. To clean these, one may require a harder brush to loosen the dirt that is stuck on the carpet. This type of carpet is best cleaned with a machine, but the hard brush will also do the trick.

There are other carpet cleaning products in the market such as shampoos that can be used to improve the overall look of the carpet and pressure its richness in texture.
